Church Kitchen Project
In 2009 a new church kitchen was built. With the stewardship of the parishioners and their generous donations and the leadership of the vestry and the guidance of the Kitchen Oversight Committee, this dream become a reality. Planning was done in 2008, and in early 2009 the real work began. In February of 2009, the Kitchen Oversight Committee signed a contract with the new the architect, Richard Griffin. Preliminary architectural drawings were ready in March. Quotes were procured for carpentry, plumbing, electrical, the Ansul exhaust hood, cabinetry and granite counters. In May, the architectural drawings were stamped as final.
In June the demolition began - the “rough” building inspections were passed in July. In September, the “final” building inspections were signed off. By October, the kitchen’s fire alarm system was upgraded, and the final Fire and Health inspections were obtained. The Kitchen Oversight Committee was happy to report that the final tally for the kitchen was $17,000 under budget! The savings allowed for the refurbishment of the floor in Remick Hall, which was completed in October. What a beautiful treasure finding that original maple floor beneath those worn old tiles! Also, with the savings in the budget, we were able to purchase the new banquet tables for Remick Hall. The combination of the new kitchen and the refurbishment of Remick Hall has made such a wonderful space for the parishioners of the church to gather in fellowship.
The dedication for the new kitchen was on Friday, January 8th, 2010. The kitchen was dedicated to two beloved members of The Church of the Holy Name, Betty Smith and Florence Bessom, whose lives and graciousness will be remembered by all parishioners. Cooking and fellowship were immensely important to both Betty and Florence.
